Black Swan Prize for Portraiture

PORTRAITURE PRIZE WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Last weekend, the ‘Rapids Landing Brings Art To Margaret River’ exhibition saw 25 amazing portraitures from the City of Perth Black Swan Prize for Portraiture displayed at Leeuwin Estate. It also raised over $500 for the newly established Margaret River Public Art Fund.

The event was visited by thousands who both enjoyed the art and participated to the People’s Choice Award, both for the main exhibition and that of a local school’s competition.

Winner

A $4000 first prize, judged by panel Doone McAlary from Arts Margaret River, Shire President Steve Harrison and Karl Altmann, one of the respected judges from Perth prize, was presented to Artist Peteris Ciemitis for his portrait of blues guitarist Dave Hole.

Honorary Mentions

Honorary mentions were given to Camilla Loveridge for her Portrait of Author Simone Lazaroo, Penelope Bladen for her Portrait of writer/director Jimmy Jack; and Kirstine Sadler for her Portrait of the late solar scientist Adele Milne.

Youth Prize

The winner of the Youth Prize went to Caleb Hamilton from Busselton Senior High School, Year 11, for his striking black and white portrait of Matthew Pavlich.

Encouragement awards of $25 each went to Rowena Wise, Isabelle Lemon and Summer Lyon, Margaret River SHS.

The Youth Award winners are being displayed at the Rapids Landing Sales Office for one month.

People's Choice Awards

A $1000 People’s Choice Award was selected from some 800 entries, with the winner going to Penelope Bladen for her portrait of Jack Jimmy, and the People’s Choice Youth Prize going to Eli Sutton.
